Women And Eye Health Risks

More women than men are at high risk of developing eye diseases. According to NATIONAL EYE INSTITUTE, women More than 3 million and men. More than 1.5 million have eye diseases. Some women have awareness about eye health and they have regular checkup to nearby eye hospital but some don’t know this heightened risk.

Women are at high risk of developing cataract, glaucoma, macular degeneration and dry eye. Why women are more susceptible then men?

The reasons are following facts.

BREAST CANCER:

90% Women suffered from breast cancer. Treatment of any cancer cause

  • Bleeding in eye
  • Light sensitivity reactions
  • UV light entering in body can effect eye externally or internally

DIABETES:

Many women are diabetic. Diabetes cause many eye diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, night blindness and rarely color blindness.

PREGNANCY:

Expectant mothers may experience vision problems like starting from headache and proceed to migraine, gestation diabetes and high blood pressure.

So expected women should consult her doctor for each and every issue during this crucial period.

Autoimmune diseases:

Women are more to have autoimmune diseases which can effect eye. These are

  • sjogren syndrome
  • Lupus
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Multiple sclerosis

These diseases can effect eye.

Poor life style:

As women are caregivers because they have many responsibilities  for the health care of their children’s, spouse, parents, husband so she ignore her own health and suffered. Women should have proper awareness about high risk of eye diseases and should adopt such a life style which keep them away from any eye diseases. Like morning walk, avoid fatty food, control their weight, avoid smoking and avoid alcohol.

These all were factors that can cause Eye diseases. The question is what type of eye related diseases occur most commonly in women?

These are

Cataract:

Cataract is the pacification of lens of eye due to which Vision is impaired and sharp image is not formed on retina.

Dry eye syndrome:

This occurs most commonly during pregnancy. Formation of tear film reduced and evaporate quickly causes the dryness of eye which causes burning irritation and itching.

Glaucoma:

Glaucoma is complicated and severe disease in which damage to optic nerve l leads to progressive and irreversible vision loss. It is the second main cause of blindness in world.

Keeping all these in mind a woman should have proper regular eye checkup.
